Bar History   Co-owners Walter Schneider and B. M. Alexander (Alex) first opened the doors to the Roosterfish on May 29th, 1979.  Alex died in 1988 and when Walter died in 2006 he passed on the bar to two of his long-time Bartenders, Donald "Dearest" and Gary Mick, his best friend, Don Cranford, and Roosterfish accountant, Doug Amann.  Approaching nearly 30 years serving the gay community, Roosterfish is one of the oldest gay bars in the country still operating from it's original location.

The Staff   Partial owner and long-time bartender Gary is always quick with a drink and even faster with a snappy retort.  Additional bartenders include Gaetano (GAYtina), Fred (Wilma), Tom (looks like he belongs in Silver Lake but he's all ours), Collin who's equally adept on both sides of the bar pouring or drinking and, and, of course, there's everybody's favorite barback (yes we said "BARback") Richard.   Finally, unless you'd like to join "Club 86" (as in 86ed) be nice to our doormen: sexy baby-faced, bear, Michael, not to be confused with the ever H-O-T Straight Michael (trust us guys we've all tried to convert him, just give it up already) and, last but not least, Robert who, when he's not bent over a pool table (sometimes actually playing pool), can also be found at the door.

Specials   Don't miss the $3.00 Cuervo Gold Margaritas all day Wednesday and Dennis & Terry's famous burgers and 1/4 lb dogs for just $3.00 on Sunday afternoons -- You can't beat our meat! Click for More Specials

The Crowd   The patrons are friendly and include both regulars (Platinum Club Members as they're called) and visiting beach hotties checking out the only gay bar in Venice. When you drop in, come up to a few of the regulars and say hello. They'll have you in stitches with their jokes and quips. Ashli (the reigning queen of the bar), David (Nurse Ratchet), Jerome, the lovely Miss Nadine, Harold (Gloria Hole), Billy and Joseph, Dennis and Terry, Rand (Roosterfish Mayor) and yours truly Ken (Common Veranda) and a whole host of others don't bite unless... you ask us too.

Theme Song   We even have our own theme song, entitled "At the Roosterfish."  Written by former Roosterfish regular and Life-Time Platinum Club member, Ms. "Loretta June" Smitherman, now of the Palm Springs Smitermans, the song is performed to the tune of "Putting on the Ritz."  Follow the link to for the lyrics or better yet, sing along if you can hear the midi music playing in the background.  Click for Roosterfish Theme Song
