Mark Flanders

Minnesota born and Wisconsin raised photographer, Mark Flanders, claims he moved to Los Angeles just to get warm, but it’s his erotic male photography that is scorching hot!  Mark’s striking photos are created using traditional and digital photography often coupled with experimental art and innovative photographic techniques.

A quote on the home page of Mark’s website by author and essayist Anais Nin says a lot about how personal Mark’s works feel… “We don’t see things as they are, we see things as WE are.” Well, if that’s the case, we’re very happy with Mark’s artistic vision which is simultaneously sensual and noble.

The Roosterfish will be displaying several of Mark’s homoerotic works through the end of April, so please come down and check them out.  Each photograph is printed on a 24″ x 36″ mounted canvas and, though they regularly sell for $450, the artist is making them available during the exhibition for only $397.

You can also view several of Marks’s other works on his website at www.MarkFlanders.com or just email him at mark@markflanders.com.…

Michael Kirwan

Artistillustrator and sometime photographer, Michael Kirwan has come a long way from his childhood attending Catholic school while growing up in New York City’s Washington Heights District.  In those days he spent most of his time sketching his own private worlds on paper bags from the local A&P because he couldn’t afford art supplies.  And, when we say he’s ‘come a long way,’ we don’t just mean relocating cross country to Los Angeles with a protracted and influential detour through Miami’s South Beach…  While Michael would be the first to tell you that no one gets rich illustrating porn, we’re pretty sure that, given his widely published and highly collectable works, he can now afford his own art supplies.  But, the greatest testament to how far he’s come is that, these days, no one is going to mistake Michael’s work as that of a good Catholic school boy!  His sexually explicit homoerotic illustrations would send the most progressive Mother Superior running for her rosary and probably a steel ruler for the artist!

We, however, do not share the good sister’s concerns.  Instead, we would side with Michael’s own description of what he called his “randy little creations” in 2006 metroG interview.  In the interview, the artist points out that it’s not his place to judge and takes great pride that the characters in his work are never debased, defamed or derided for being different.  Instead, they are depicted as “horny, happy and human.”  We couldn’t agree more!

Though Michael received no formal art training, his natural talent seems to have been enhanced and nurtured, along with his own emerging homoerotic sensibility, by an oddly fortuitous employment choice.  In 1980, after a failed 5-year marriage, Michael fully embraced his new-found gay identity by taking a job at New York’s famous St. Mark’s Baths.  It was here he learned to appreciate the diversity of gay men in all shapes, sizes, colors and sexual interests.  And, from a technical stand point, it was here that he learned to memorized their physiquesgesturesposes and sexual positions till he could get it all down on paper.  The results of his time at the baths are clearly reflected in his drawings.  And, just as clearly, judging by the quality and distinctive style of Michael’s illustrations, it was time well spent!

Michael was first published by Stroke Magazine in 1984. Since then his illustrations have appeared in numerous national adult publications including FreshmenMandateHonchoPlayguyInchesAdvocate MenBlueboyDude and Badpuppy, as well as dozens of lesser regional and local one.  His work has also been exhibited in several major cities including New YorkPortlandMiami and Los Angeles.  And, Tom of Finland Foundation, in 2004, named Michael as Artist-of-the-Year.

Roosterfish will be displaying several of Michael’s homoerotic works through the end of October, so please come down and check them out. You can view or purchase numerous additional pieces on his website at www.KirwanArts.com or visit him on Facebook at www.facebook.com/KirwanArts.…

Shahryar Amiri

Iranian-born artist Shahryar Amiri’s edgysensual and erotic artwork entitled 2001 Knights: Gods, Warriors, Heroes, uses complex manipulation of photos combined with original digital artwork to create emotion-filled compositions that expertly blend his Middle Eastern heritage, sexuality and cultural appreciation for poetry and color. At first glance, the resulting artwork is startling and perhaps shocking but, after longer observation, the compositions’ nuances resolve the initial perceptions of conflict and the viewer develops a deeper sense of meaning by closely studying the pieces that read like books.

Shahryar’s works consists of carefully crafted compositions that contain statuesque gods and warriors who drink from ancient fountains, bask lazily on stairs next to reflecting pools and take flight on mythological wings while surrounded by brightly colored landscapes of turbulent watersancient castles and barren deserts. Adding to the richness of the works are strong symbols and heavy imagery as well as excerpts of poems written by Shahryar in his native tongue and great Persian poets such as Omar Khayyam.

The Roosterfish will be displaying several of Shahryar’s homoerotic works through the end of October, so please come down and check them out. You can view several of his other pieces on his website at www.2001knights.com

David Crocker

The Roosterfish is one again proud to once again welcome multi-award winning painter and artist David Crocker.  David’s latest exhibit, “As One Boy With Another” is a mixed media exhibition of lifesized paintings depicting “multiple exposures” of the male nude.  the viewer is challenged to connect body parts and forge new relationships that blur the lines between organic pleasure and societal prohibition.

The title of this exhibit was inspired, in part, by French author J.K. Huysmans.  His novel A Rebours (trans. Against Nature) created such an example of extreme decadence that he was accused of promoting spiritual and moral perversity. This novel is even mentioned as a negative influence on Oscar Wilde’s title character in “The Picture of Dorian Gray.”

David Crocker’s work was perhaps best described by the LA Alternative Press which called it, “dripping with raw emotion and vibrant color!” David received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors from Michigan State University, studied painting in Florence, Italy, and was classically trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA.

The Roosterfish will be displaying several of David’s homoerotic works through the end of April, so please come down and check them out. You can view several of his other pieces on his website at www.DavidCrockerArtist.com
